It is reported that Arnst offered Pearce a sum running into three figures if he would not go to England. Arnst says he has the backing to meet Barry on the Thames. If Pearce goes first Arnst will be compelled to wait a year for a race. Pearce declined the offer, being determined to go, and refusing to race Arnst before he goes.
