SPLENDID TENNIS. BROOKES AGAIN TRIUMPHS. p By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 19, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, January 19. ; I The lawn tennis test match, British ■ s Isles v. Australia, was continued yester- 'J day in bright and extremely hot weather, 1 before an attendance of 35,000. t Most interest centred in the meeting 1 of Brookes and Parke. The latter at the start outplayed Brookes, until the score was 5—2 in his favor. Then came a great deal of amazingly clever volleying from both. Brookes, recovering finely, took four games in succession, making it o—s in his favor. Furke won 5 the next two, Brookes securing the last three and the set in 31 minutes. Parke ( won the first game in the second set i mainly through two great recoveries. J Brookes mixed his game and rattled | j Parke, who made some weak strokes, | whereas Brookes was right at the top ; of his game. The set lasted sixteen,] minutes. Brookes took 48 aces to 43, and 31 to 20. This is noteworthy, as it ] wag Parke's first defeat in Australasia. . Dunlop gave a better showing in the j, singles against Lowe than on Friday, ] but found Lowe's superior playing too I' much. Jones won the first set against Beamish, who played a line game, but he went to pieces afterwards, his energy being affected. Heath opened sensationally against Dixon, taking the set to love. Dixon thereafter played infinitely better. The score in the second set reached 3 —all. and no fewer than ten deuces were called in one of the games. Bcamisli and Dixon succumbed to I Heath and Jones, mainly through Jones' line net work, overhead work and severe serves. Dixon's tossing was a valuable asset to his side, but Beamish tired towards the finish, finding the net too often. Brookes and Dunlop. as anticipated, defeated Parke and Lowe, Parke playing many pretty passing shots. Lowe's service occasionally beat even Brookes. SCORES. Lowe beat Dunlop, B—2, 6—4.
