Enormous seas washed the decks, making it impossible to use the rocket lines, and it was some hours before the breechesbuoy arrived aboard. At 7 o'clock 84 had already been saved and 10 drowned through the breaking of the cable. The rescue continues slowly. A PERILOUS POSITION. 170 STILL ABOARD. Received 19. n.3 p.m. London, January IS. __The increasing gale hampered the r7C who remain aboard the vessel, which m 300 yards from the shore. Heavv seas are sweeping over the boat. Twenty English passengers are aboard. One hundred and fifty emigrants embarked at Vigo, llanv of the victims are children.
Gunboats have been despatched to assist in the rescue.
