HARBOR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEEAING. The Harbor Board met yesterday when there were present: The chairmar (llr. J. B, Connett) and Messrs C. A Wilkinson. M.P., Newton King, E. Max 'well, E. Doi'krill, J. Marx and C. E Bellringer. OVERSEA CONNECTION. Tn informing the Board that the Ame I'iean schooner H. D. Bendixsen (57( tons), with a load of Oregon pine, con signed to them, was due to arrive at Moturoa about February 20, Messrs Webster Bros, asked the Board, seeing that they only had a certain number ol lay days for discharging the vessel, tc give her all reasonable assistance tc hasten her unloading. The prompt dis charge of the vessel would mean a good advertisement- for the port and go a long way to bring the harbor, in the eyes of the shipping concerns of the Pacific Coast of America, in line with Wellington, Auckland and other ports. They anticipated that the vessel's loaded draught would be about 18 feet. They asked that she be given the inshore berth between the breakwater and the wharf, the same berth as used by otliei foreign vessels. It was decided to fall in with the request of the writers. TENDERS. It was reported by the chairman thai the tender of Mr. H. Joll had been accepted for the supply of meat to the Paritutu, and that of Messrs Johnson Bros, fpr groceries. SHIPPING. In his monthly report, the acting harbormaster (Captain J. McMahon) stated that during the four weeks ending January 11 28 steamers worked the port inwards and outwards, the .aggregate gross tonnage amounting to 23,909 tons. The imports amounted to 5033 tons, of which 3838 tons comprised general cargo. 408 tons being coal for the railways and 1387 tons consisting of coal on private consignment. The exports of produce and general cargo during the month amounted to 1815 tons, making a total of 7448 tons handled. HARBOR WORKS. The monthly report of the superintendent of works (Mr. F. Henderson) stated that the Paritutu had dredged with the sand pump in the fairway on 15 days, the net time occupied being 13!)y„ hours, and the spoil removed 56 loads, equalling 22,400 tons. Five days were observed as holidays, and dredging was stopped for three days owing to rough weather, while one day was •spent in coaling and changing cutter. The vessel was now being prepared for annual slipping and overhaul at Wellington. The Thomas King had dredged with the sand pump at the breakwater bank on 15 days. The net time occupied was 141) hours and the dredge lifted 95 loads equal to 7000 tons. Ten piles had, continued the report, Ikhmi -driven in connection with the wharf lengthening, completing the fourth bay. The lengthening would be completed_ early in March. The report also mentioned that 192 yards of gravel had -been taken from the inlet at Mikotahi and deposited on the upper quarry siding. Gravel also continued to be plentiful on the Fishing Rock beach, and the raranaki Oil Wells had taken IGB yards to date. ACCOUNTS. ' Accounts amounting to £l2Bl were f passed for payment.
