PROPOSED AMALGAMATION". By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, January 10. Amalgamation appears to be in the industrial air ;it present. Besides the interstate consolidation of bush-workers and the State unification of laborers' i unions, a proposal is afoot to form an I interstate federation of the building tiade organisations. Clerks, shop assistants and storemen are also contemplating amalgamation. The Labor paper announces that if the scheme adopted by the conference of delegates is accepted by the union, the amalgamation will have a roll-call of 100,000. This will mark another great advance, and the ideal of one big union, embracing workers of every calling, will have been brought appreciably nearer realisation. RABBIT-TRAPPERS' STRIKE. Sydney, January 16. Four hundred rabbit-trappers struck at Gunnedah, demanding 7%d for big and small rabbits. It is feared the trouble will become widespread, owing to the trappers joining the Bush Union's amalgamation, which intends operating throughout the Commonwealth.
THE COLLIERY STRIKE. Received 16, 10.35 p.m. Sydney, January 16. A meeting of the Northern Colliery Proprietors agreed to Mr. Carmichael's suggestion to place before him their views on the points of difference between them and the Colliery Employees' Federation. The decision is regarded as a hopeful augury of a settlement of the trouble.
