PUKEKURA PARK BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.. Last night's meeting of the Pukekura Park Board was attended by the chairman (Mr. C. W. Govett), and Messrs. S. Percy-Smith, G. W. Browne, F. P. Corkall H. Ford, W. Ambury, E. C. Hughes,, mi F. Jackson. CURATOR'S REPORT. In his monthly report, the curator (Mr. W. W. Smith) stated that owing to thephenomenal rain-storm of December 2 r which caused considerable scouring- on; some of the walks, five days were tpent. in repairing and levelling them. After outlining maintenance and other work of a general nature, he stated that the' tree-felling, aa directed by the Board*. was now completed, and the wood was ready for sale by the cartload. The newly-painted and recently renovated' tea-rooms in the Park had been through l out the Christmas and New Year holidays well partonised, and, continued to be under Mrs. Corrie's excellent management. The rooms were now -becoming quite a pleasant afternoon resort for townsfolk in fine weather. The walk at the John street entrance near the racecourse had been altered and remodelled and was a great improvement. Last week he reecived another package of Queensland plant seed from Mr. H. Nicholson, of Maryborough, who was on a vsit to New Plymouth. The vegetation in the Park continued to make great a visit to New Plymouth. The vegetation weather. Very little damage was done by the fire which occurred in the Park on December 29. The efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Blewmen, Messrs. Sandford, Elliot, and Jones undoubtedly prevented considerable damage being done.—The report was received, and a vote of thanks accorded to those persons who had assisted in. quelling the outbreak of fire, and to the donator of seeds. GENERAL. On the motion of Mr. Corkill, a special committee was set up to go into the question of boating on the lake and report to the next meeting of the Board, and that in the meantime the chairman be authorised to make arrangements to continue on with Mr. Webber on such terms as he (the chairman) shall think fit.

A hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Messrse. Cooper Bros, for gratuitously painting the tea rooms and tool shed free of charge. Mr. Hughes reported that at a meet- ■> ing of ladies convened at his office it had been decided not to engage in the collection of annual subscriptions until after the end of the financial year in March next. It was reported that the Sports Ground Committee had received £l4 its' share of the proceeds of the recent Maori Sports meeting, which amount will be handed to the Board.
