PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Rahotu last week. Present. Messrs Young (chairman), Willeox and Harvey. Foreman J. P. Kennedy reported:— Turu road, loan contract No. 8B: Tliis contract has been completed and a very satisfactory job has -been made of it.; Extra 4 1 /; chains of drain was neces- 1 snry to be made to take water down to the main road, doing away with the i trouble of water running on to the Maori land; cost £2. I have passed contracts. Cape road: The decking of the small bridge on this road has j given away. I have made necessary repairs for the time being. It will re- \ quire to be re-decked, and four new; stringers. put in, The timber required I have ordered. I have gone over a portion of the road with the county foreman, as instructed by your Board. Upper Kina road: I .have" placed a pipe eulvert in by the creamery, taking ten 24m pipes; have sold old timber out of the culvert to Mr. John Fleming for £l. I shall be going on with the metalling of this road in the course of about a week. Upper Arawhata road: We have about finished repairs on this road, as J far as the funds would permit. There j are still a few weak places which will j have to stand over till a later date. Parihaka road: Weak places have been j repaired during the month. I have re- j ceivod a ton of chad from Messrs Moffit | and Goodwin. The following pipes have been sold this month: Mr.' Mars Hill. Ave 24in; upper Kina road, ten 24in. Mr. M. Hill asks for a month's leave of absence.—Leave granted. Pungarehu road—Mr. Crisp wrote complaining of the delay in having the fence removed, as agreed upon by himself and the Board's solicitor.—The clerk to reply that the Board is going on with the work at once.' The "Board's soli-{ citor forwarded plan of road deviation for signatures.—The foreman was instructed to carry out the Board's resolution to remove fences and re-erect same on defined line. This refers to the piece of land taken under the Public Works Act.

Puniho road.—Mr. Old drew attention to a bad hole on the Puniho road. The letter to be referred to the Werekino Road Board, as that body had undertaken the work of maintenance.

The returning officer was empowered to take the necessary steps to have the vacancy for the Opua riding filled. The clerk was authorised"to take the necessary steps to raise a ten per cent. additional loan for the Turn road. The members of the Board will make a motor-ear tour of the roads under the Board's jurisdiction.

Mr. Green wrote complaining of the Board's action in opening up' Gregory road. He characterised it as a silly notion, and done in the interests of one particular party. He admitted putting up a fence on the road, and had "ivon notice to Messrs Mullholland and Hawkins to fence. He was of opinion that the Board should compensate him for keeping the road clear of noxious weeds. Ihe road, in liis opinion, when opened up, would only be a stalking place for stray cattle.-This letter was read and dealt with at the special meeting of the Board.

The Reserves Agent forwarded to the credit of (lie Board £134, being orant for the Thaia road work. n Account, amounting to £774 were pa-.-ed for payment.—Opnnake Times.
