Wellington, Saturday. 1 The Salvation Army authorities state | that the appeal for funds for General Booth's memorial is meeting a ready response. Nine persons have contributed £IOO each, twelve have given £SO, thirty-three £25, nine £2O, and thirty- ! five £lO each. The total to date is £OOOO I and it is belived the whole £IO.OOO will be raised. Sketch plans have been approved for a building which is estimated to cost £7OOO, and will be built in brick, to accommodate over fifty students. ; DEPARTMENTAL OHANC;ESt\ Wellington, Saturday. Wellinsrtotv. .Saturday., The barque Kokohead arrived last night from Portland, Oregon, with a million and a half feet of lumber for the Stewart Timber Company, Wellington. The vessel had a good passage of 45 days. When a month out, an able seaman named J. Walker stepped off a rail when the vessel was going ten knot's, and was drowned. The barque was immediately hove to, and every effort made to save the man. but without avail. A light 1 breeze was blowing at the time.
