ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FALL FROM A HORSE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. A serious accident occurred at the Tiniroto Sports on Saturday afternoon. Mr. George Chase, of Nuhaka, was riding the grey gelding Taikoa in the Pony Jumps, when the horse struck a hurdl« heavily, and, turning a somersault, fe'.l on .his rider, who appeared to be severely crushed. Mr. Chase was brought to town with all despatch. He is in a serious condition. A DROWNING FATALITY. Wanganui, Last Night. A sailor named John Webb Dingle, aged 50, unmarried, a native of England, was drowned in the river on Friday night, after spending the evening drinking in town. It is surmised that lie fell from the gangway when boarding his vessel, the scow Maroro. By means of a fishing line the body was recovered yesterday afternoon. Dingle joined the vessel in Sydney a few weeks ago. Some . . months ago the .Maroro lost a sailor in a similar manner.
