THE PORT OF LONDON.
NEW ZEALAND TRADE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, January 11. Mr. \Y. D. Lysnar, of Gisborne, has arrived. lie visited England on behalf of the New Zealand Producers' Association to report on the handling of New Zealand frozen produce. He stated that the London dock authorities acknowledged in 1910 that their system of distributing produce from the ship's side at the Port of London was unsatisfactory, and promised reforms, which the Now Zealand committee understood would be made within eighteen months. The reforms are still as far oil as ever. The New Zealand committee in UUO specially requested that the South-west India dock should be especially equipped foi the New Zealand trade. The Port of London authorities were agreeable, but, through London importers' the authorities decided to make some suggested improvements at the Albert and Victoria dock instead of the .South-west India dork. The Albert dock is ten miles lower down the Thames, necessitating New Zealand produce travelling the extra distance and being subjected io extra hand'.ing. The scheme did not relieve New Zealand's main complaint, namely, the wretched bargaining system which was stilling their trade by first ruining the products, then increasing the cost to the consumer. "'We intend t:) walk right away from London, and leave it quietly alone. It is impossible at this distance to force the London authorities out of the old rut. We propose to form a new association of producers at the London end, which would receive and market our produce, thus ensuing the. profits going to the producei and eliminating the grasping middleman as far as possible." - < ■
