Dr. to-day mot the) representatives of the Maoris'at Ohineimitu to. discuss ■ native affairs. Representations were freely made, by various speakers,, and three, points were especially dwelt npotu viz., the'■constitution and usefulness of (a) native ',and courts, (b) native Jan-I."boards, and (ej intended legislation ;■ the .Maori race. Several speakers raised the question of the abolition of both the native land tribunals. The Minister indicated that he would lay the views of the meeting.before'his colleagues. The principal subject raised, however, was 'whether an effort should be made to do away with the distinction between the two races, and place/Maoris or entirely even terms in every way with the pakcha, A -feeling was' manifested in favor of this, and several speakers expressed a strong desire to,see'this carried into effect.
