ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
SUICIDE OF A FIREMAN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. At the inquest on Patrick Ferguson, who was found with a bullet wound in his head in a tram waiting shed at Oriental Bay, a verdict was returned that deceased died from a wound self-inflict-ed, whilst temporarily insane. A witness stated that he received the following note from Ferguson: "Dear old friend Tom, [ am going to change my medicine; it will be h:ird to take, but I think it will cutc all complaints. Some people might say I ~m all wrong, but I think it is the only move on the board. Will say good-bye. Prosperous New Year.— Paddy."
A SOMNAMBULIST INJURED. Oisborne, Friday. Frederick Benson, storekeeper at IV karae, while walking in his sleep fell over the edge of a verandah and dropped 15 feet, sustaining severe injuries, including a broken arm, dislocated elbow and broken thigh.
KILLED BY A FALL OF EARTH. Auckland. Last Night, A miner named William Sullivan, aged about thirty, and married, 'was killed to-night by a fall of earth. Deceased was working on the drainage works tunnel, when twenty or thirty tons of e:ir!!i caved in, part 'of it striking deceased. He died soon after being extricated.
THE MOKAU FATALITY. The body of the lad Harold Hirst, drowned at Mokau on Wednesday, has not up to last evening been found. ' The High School camp was broken up yesterday, Mr. Moyes and two of the lads staying behind.
