BOWLING.

NORTHERN BOWLING ASSOCfATION. LAST ANNUAL FLEETING. THE NEW CONTROL OUTLINED.

Auckland, Thursday. The last annual conference under*the auspices of the Northern Bowling Association was held in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. The President (Mr. M. Casey) explained that the tournament just being played was the last that would be held under the Northern Rowling Association rules. Many would regret this, but he expressed a hope that the same good feeling would be maintained under the regime of the New' Zealand Bowling Association as had existed under the present Association. (Applause). He invited suggestions from visiting bowlers as to recommendations i to be submitted to the Association. ; _ The secretary of the Northern Bowling Association (Mr. J. J. Roberts, Wellington) informed the meeting that the New Zealand Association would take over the control of bowling in .September of next year. The North Island would have five representatives on the new council and the South Island five. The various centres in each island could nominate candidates for office, and the northern centres would vote for the election only of the five northern representatives, and the southern centres would only vote for the southern representatives. The term of office would be for 12 months, and the idea at present was that the headquarters should be movable Some idea as to what should be centres was wanted, and he called on the visiting delegates for suggestions. °

Eventually recommendations were adopted that the North Tslar.fl should consist of eight centres, the Auckland district to be divided into two. A recommendation that the New Zealand Association should hold one tournament in the Xorth Island and another in the South Island on- different dales next year was carried.

It was further recommended that the champion rink of the North Island tournament should meet that of the South, to decide the championship of the Dominion.

Mr. Cohen, of Wanganui, made a strong protest against the use of the Scottish standard bowl. The man who played with narrow bowls should not be tolerated on the greens. He expressed the hope that bowlers would not allow the game to be spoilt bv this unsportsmanlike element which" had shown a tendency to creep in. The remarks of Mr. Cohen were received with prolonged applause, and other speakers stated that the question of the narrow bowl had been a standing grievance 'for a number of years.

THE NORTHERN TOURNAMENT.

Auckland, Last Night. The Northern Bowling Association's Tournament was advanced a further stage to-day, when the section winners played off on the Auckland green. The fourteen teams were divided into three sections, there being four teams in sections B and C, and six in section A. The weather was perfect in the morning, but shortly before three o'clock a heavy shower fell, making the turf heavy. The following are the details of the <mmes:— A SECTION.

First Round—Dingwall (Remuera) 25 beat Jones (Grey Lynn) 9, Osmond (Auckland) 26 beat Parata (Tehiwi) 14, Wakerley (Rock Nook) 18 beat Lamb (Carlton) 17. Cohen and Casey did not play. To-morrow Bell (Wellington), Nash (Palmerston North), and Osmond (Auckland) will meet in the final, and the last try match will also be played between the teams defeated in inter-sec-tional play. A consolation match will also be continued. The teams remaining in the latter competition are London (Wanganui), Crowley (Grcenmcadows). Parsons (Ponsonby), Wylie (Newtown), Ballingor (Wellington), Hooper (Mt. Eden), Craig (Gisborne), For (Hawera), Pragncll (Masterton), Maver (Victoria), Cray (Auckland), Say well (Feilding), Eagleton (Dominion Road), Walker (Powonby), Kilgour (Carlton).

THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. Taranaki is to have a bowling tournament, the entries for which c l o g e tonight. The contest is for rinks only and is confined to the Taranaki Province It is. of course, too late to alter the regulations now, but we would suggest that in future the competition should be an open one. As it m the secretary has ►ecu •reluctantly compelled to refuse applications for entries from several outside rinks. Now that there is so much outside interest in our commercial undertakings probably quite a number of people who have "a stake" in the town would be glad to combine business with pleasure in participating in a bowling tournament which would last over several days. There reallv seems to be no reason why the contest should-be limited lo the province a'.one and throwing it open would helo not only to stimulate the game, but woud do its little bit towards that goal at which we are all aiming—the advertising of the Province.
