A London cablegrom reports the death of Mr. Power, Nationalist member of Parliament. A. London cablegram states that Lord Roberts's second daughter, Edwina, has been bethrothed to Major H. J. Lewin. A Delhi cablegram states that Lord Hardinge is progressing favourably, but that his hearing has been affected by the accident. A cablegram from Ottawa states that the Duchess of Connaught is seriously ill from peritonitis, and has been removed to the Montreal Hospital. It was only two years ago that, a man of fifty-four years, Dr. Woodrow Wilson, President-elect of the United States, made his first speech as a candidate. Less than two jtears ago be took hie first political office. Mr. Nicbol, who for three years has been associated with the Patea County Press, more particularly as its Waverley correspondent, has received an appointment on the literary staff of the Timaru Post.

On the occasion of his forthcoming visit to the Old Country, the Very Rev. Dean MeKenna, of Masterton, will have a commission to secure priests for the diocese, to fill the vacancies recently caused by death, etc . A Dannevirke message states that the Governor, Lord Liverpool, has intimated .that he will have much pleasure in being present at the Dannevirke Show on February 13th. A cablegram is to hand from Edinburgh announcing that Mr. Eex Brewster (son of Mrs. Brewster, of New Plymouth, and nephew of the Hon. O. Samuel) has successfully passed as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He qualified in London as M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. about three years ago, since when he has beeii house surgeon and physician at several hospitals for the treatment of special diseases and acquiring experience of a varied character, including acting as locum tenens in private practices. Tie is expected to pay New Zealand a visit shortly.

Dean Harper has handed in his resignation to Bishop Julius, to take effect as from April 10th next. 111-health is given as the reason. Dean Harper is the fourteenth child of the late Bishop Harper, and was born in Berkshire, England, in 1848. His first appointment in Canterbury wa.s to the curacy of Ellesmere, which he held till 1882, when he became incumbent of St. Michael's, Cliristchurch. He administered the parish for eleven years, until .ISO 3. when he was appointed Canon of Cliristchurch Cathedral, head of the Ological Department of Christ's College, principal of College House, and Sub-Dean of the Cathedral. In November, 1901, soma time after the death of Dean Jacobs, he was appointed Dean of Cliristchurch and installed as such on December lfith, 1001. Some time later he resigned his position of principal of College House.
