INGLEWOOD NEWS.

FIRE BRIGADE. The annual meeting of the Inglewood Fire Brigade was held on Monday evening, Captain Rolston presiding. The annual report stated, inter alia, that six calls had been received during the year, including two false alarms and a chimney. The Brigade was successful • in extinguishing the three fires before any serious damage was done. The value of the property was £9950. It was insured for £6IBO, while the companies had to pay out £2133. The success was due to the excellent water pressure, and receiving the alarms early. The plant was now efficient and in real good order. The new bell promised by the Borough was placed in position, but the Tinging apparatus was not yet completed. After referring to the Brigade's performance at the recent New Plymouth demonstration the report mentioned that it was hoped to have the Brigade strongly represented at Wanganui. The balancesheet showed that the Teceipts and expenditure had been the highest for many years, the Brigade having paid £l9 not incurred by present members, and also £3O 15s 2d for uniforms and caps. Although 10 members had resigned owing to leaving the district, no difficulty was experienced in filling the vacancies, and the strength now was four officers, eight Iremen and two messengers. Forty-five practices were held with an average attendance of nine members. Officers were ' elected as follows:—Captain, T. W. Rolston (re-elected); Lieutenant, A. V. Ooldwell (re-elected); First Foreman, Mr. W. J. Robb; Second Foreman, Mr. Geo. H, Carrington; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Lieutenant A. V. Coldweil (re-elected); First Branchman, Mr. McLsggan; Second Branchman, Mr. M. Harris; First Hydrantman, Mr. W. J. Robb; Second Hydrantman, Mr. Geo. H. Carrington. Committee—Captain Rolston, Lieutenant Coldweil, Messrs. Robb, Carrington, Harris and McLaggan. Delegate—Lieutenant Coldweil. It was rewired to enter teams for the following events at the Wanganui Demonstration! —Ladder race, Baby rescue, two men, coupling, hose, hydrant and union, five men; Association event five men.
