Tin; Conservatives are giving -prominence to Sir Joseph Lawence's idea of a grant of a bounty of i. -a quarter for colonial and home-grown wheat, moiey to be obtaineJ by the taxation of foreign manufactures. Thus -both the wonders and agriculturists would be benefitted. Air. Charles Batlnirst, member for Wilts, supporting the proposition, argues that the bounty should be larger in the case ot home-grown than colonial 'wheat, in fairness to English farmers owing to their heavy rates and t*x»s. and a/so for the sake n" iscal orthodoxy.
