Light rain set in at one o'clock, and at 4 it was decided to abandon the match for the day. The position then was:—South Melbourne Ist innings 227, Otago 3 wickets for 109. j I CIHUSTCHURCH GAMES. Christeliurch January 4. Beautiful weather prevailed for today's matches, when the fifth round was commenced oil beautiful wickets. The leading team, .St. Albans, cracked up badly against East Christeliurch, and are in a bad position, whilst West Christchurch, aided by a fine double century from Dan Reese, put up the big total of 418, Sydenham are in a strong position against Linwood. Results:—St. Albans 90 and 25 for two v. East Christchurch 108; West Christeliurch 418 (D. Reese 200, W. I. Jennings 09) v. Riccarton 27 for 0; Linwood 144 (E. Perrin 60) v. Sydenham 100 for five (J. L. Patterson 87 not out). WATRARAPA v. WANGANUI. Masterton, Janaury 4. The cricket match between the Wairarapa representative team and the Wanganui Nomads was continued to-day. Wairarapa compiled 97 in their first innings. Following on Wairarapa did a little better, and put together 107. McAlpine not out 27, Hickson 18, Redmond 13, Cougdon 10, were the cheif scorers. In bowling Hussev took five wickets for (5 runs, Bernan three for 29, and Pomeroy one for 43. The visitors thus won by an innings and 193 runs.
