On account of the inclemency of the I weather the social programme was marred. so I am unable to give a dcscrip- I tion of any function that occurred this week, as the only prevailing features were umbrellas and mackintoshes. MOUNTAIN HOUSE. One of the great attractions of New Plymouth (ami may it always continue) is the new Mountain House, and ever since it has been open it has been crowded out by visitors. Amongst those who visited the House during Xmas week were:—Mr. and Mrs. W. Linley Meek and Messrs. Meek (Wellington), Mr. and Mr*. Myers (Wellington), Mr. Me- Cormack (Auckland), Miss Prichard (New South Wales). Mr. A. Cummings (Wellington). Mr. and Mrs. M. Fraser (New Plymouth). Mr. Cousins (Auckland), Mr. Parke (Auckland), Mrs. Burgess (New Plymouth). Mrs. and Miss Armstrong (New Plymouth), Mr. McKay (Wellington), Mrs. Messenger (New Plymouth), Mrs. Grant (New Plymouth), Messrs. McLean and Chambers (Wellington) Mrs Mason, Misses French (Auckland), Mr. and Miss Stell (Palmerston North).

THEATRE. One can hardly describe how eagerly we are all looking forward to the performance of '"The Girl In The Train," by J. C. Williamson's Company, which is to be performed in the' Theatre Royal on Monday. Janatiry 20th, when we shall have the opportunity of witnessing the performance of the ever-popular comedian, Mr. W. S. Percy, who will take the part of Mr. Justice Percy, also Miss Sybil Arundale. the fascinating Gonda Van Der Loo. PERSONAL ITEMS.

Dr. and Mrs. Knight, and Mr. and Mrs. Young, all of Wellington, are visiting New Plymouth. Mrs. Beribow and family are paying a vltSit to Ngiiaire. Miss 0; Shaw, New Plymouth, is on a visit to Blenheim. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Fitzherbert and family. Palincrston North, are visiting New Plymouth, and have taken the house of Mr. A. H. Watkins, South Road, for a month. .Mrs. Nasi), wife of the Mayor of Palmerston North, is on a visit to New Plvmouth.
