PTOMAINE POISONING.

ONE HUNDRED CASES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Friday. Over one hundred cases of ptomaine poisoning have occurred during the last couple of days. The great majority are traceable to ice creams, all obtained at one shop. The fact that one man also was taken ill after partaking of tea at the same place leads to the supposition that impure milk was the cause. Several cases arc rather severe, but none are really serious.

Wanganui, Last Night. The health authorities have been making investigations, and it is thought that some of the cream supplied to tlie ice cream vendor must have been tainted. The shop in question is very popular, -the proprietor being extremely careful and scrupulously clean. Some of the sufferers, who include whole families, have been very ill. but the majority are now on the road to recovery.

OUTBREAK IX NEW PLYMOUTH. Scores of Xew Plymouth residents are temporarily incapacitated through ptomaine poisoning, brought on through eating ice-cream. In some cases practically the whole family has been attacked. During the festive week numerous family parties "did" Ihe town, and many indulged in a cooling glass of ice-cream. Exactly what is at the bottom of the trouble is not known, but the fact remains that the local medicos and chemists have had their hands full in attending to patients this week. The victims include three hospital nurses. Happily no very serious casts have been reported.
