DETAILS OK THE lUCJXC. Sei'iitchings reduced the field for the Tariki Walter to nine, of which Patronymic, Princess Flo and Conner came in lor mosk support. Mr. Thompson sent them away to a good start, hut hefore a furlong had been covered Conney was in the van, followed by Princess Flo and the rest hunched. At the five furlongs post Moirette lost her rider. Princess Flo and Conney led along the hack, but before the turn was reached Patronymic could be seen coming with a great turn of speed. The latter covered a lot of ground at the home turn, but when straightened up the favourite quickly settled Conney and Princess Flo, and ran in a comfortable winner by three lengths from Conney. Howler fim ifilicd fast, a close third, and thcu came Princess Flo and Allure. Fourteen faced the starter in the Borough Stakes, Tree Lucerne. Astor and Kathleen Mavoureen carrying most money. Floss was quickest to find her feet from a fair send-off, and Astor was nnwt prominent of the others. Astor took the lead three furlongs 'from home, and looked a winner at the turn, but the two-year-old faded away in the run home, and Tree Lucerne, finishing up well, beat Floss by a narrow margin. Astor was a fair third, and the rest spread out. The withdrawal of Con the Sliattghran, ing Star from the Strafford Cup took St. Serf, Tied Lupin, Cornelian and Shina lot of interest owt of the event. Of the six starters North-East was a hot favourite, Sam Tan, Jluieteer and. P&-

triotic also having a good following. The field moved off in line, and Rector Girl set out to make the pace. The daughter of Obligado led Master Tupuhi by several lengths as they ran past the stand, Patriotic being third and Sam Pan last. Master Tupuhi and Patriotic reduced Rector Girl's lead as they ran along the back, and at the turn Rector Girl was beaten. Sam Pan was coming fast, and North-East was tailing off. Master Tupuhi was first into the straight, and came on to win comfortably from Muleteer, who finished well. Patriotic was close up next, followed by Sam Pan and Rector Girl. North-East was a bad last. ; The scratching pen was freely used in the Midhirst Handicap. Only five h«rses sported silk, Aruake being installed a warm order, Tetikura and Royal Dragoon being next in order of favouritism. Delia jumped back when the tapes lifted, but the rest moved off in line. Royal Dragoon and Aruake were in the van running out of the straight, Opeke being next and Delia last. Opeke went to the front four furlongs from home, but Royal Dragoon always had her measure, and was again well clear of the opposition as they turned for home. Aruake and Tetikura made great efforts to catch the leader in the straight, but the Campfire gelding was not to be denied, and won by over three lengths. Tetikura was a length away third, and Opeke and Delia a long way back. The presence of Aviatrix in the Ohura Hurdles frightened all but three horses, and the former, on the strength of her successes at New Plymouth, was sent out a firm favourite. The slippery state of the going, however, completely spoiled | her jumping, and she struck the first fence in the straight very hard and afterwards dropped right out of the contest. Timothy led Aviatrix past the stand the first time, but Bercola, who was fencing well, had run into secondplace at the six furlongs post. Half a mile from home Bercola headed Timothy, Proxy lieing about ten lengths away and Aviatrix "absolutely." Bercola bowled into the straight with a good lead, but screwed badly at the last jump. On the flat Bercola had too much pace for Timothy, and won easing up, by over a length. Proxy was a long way behind, and the favourite, Aviatrix, distanced.

Kuropotangi. a sturdy son of Papakura, was sent out an odds-on favourite for the Farmers' Plate, for which there were eight runners. Hayden Park was first away, but came down at the turn running *out of the straight, and brought down Nebulous. For a moment it looked as if. the accident would be attended with serious results, but both riders and horses escaped with a few scratches. Malaphin led along the back from Tirohanga and Kuropotangi. The latter came through at the bend, and, running on strongly won bv three lengths from a rank outsider in Malaphin. Tirohanga was four lengths away third, and Wee Paul next.

The Flying Handicap was run in heavy rain. Only four torses went to the post, Katua beng most in demand. After considerable delay the field was got away on even terms. Red Lupin set a merry pace and was followed by Ascalon, Katua and Con the Shaughran, Red Lupin was being hailed the winner at the turn when Katua came with a great rush, and, catching the leader inside the distance 'won all out by two lengths. Ascalon was three lengths aw<\y next, and Con the. Shaughraun last.

It wns almost-impossibe to distinguish the colors as the horses lined up for the Railway Handicap., Crawford was quickly in front and ran in an easy winner by two lengths from Galtee, with Gordon Bell a close third. Glenferii was last.
