THE BANK ROBBERY.
A SMART CRIME. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, December 31. The bank robbers touched no part of the locks with bare hands and no fingerprints were discovered. Fortune favored them, inasmuch as the original intention was to transfer an old safe to the new branch, in which case the burglars would have found the old safe facing them when they opened the strong room, but this idea was not carried out. The gang has made previous attempts on other new buildings. When approaching completion, the strong-room doors of the Intercolonial Investment Company and (lie New Zealand Insurance Company wore both recently tampered with. The robbery followed a number of attempts on several large city premises. I Two men were seen leaving the bankcarrying heavy portmanteaux.
THE POLTCE BAFFLED. Sydney, January 1. The police have no clue to the -perpetrators of the bank robbery, but are. convinced that it i.s the work of expert foreign cracksmen. They are of opinion that the gang must have included a practical locksmith.
