A Lpndon cablegram states that it is reported that Mr. Bvyee is to receive a peerage. A Sydney cablegram states that Mr. .Speaker Willis is a passenger by the Wiminera for New Zealand. Mr, J. H. Stevens, late Assistant Inspector of Post Offices, is at present visiting New Plymouth. He was for fortytwo years in the service, and is about to take'up a responsible position with a Manawatu commercial firm.
Hon. W. D. Johnson, Minister of Public Works in West Australia, arrived in Wellington last night by the steamer Kwinana, partly on a pleasure trip and partly to inquire into the departmental methods of interest to his Government, particularly local option.—Press Association.
A London cablegram says that Mr. Bruce Ismay will retire from the Presidency of the International Mercantile Marine Company on Juno 30. Mr. Harold Sanderson, formerly manager of the White Star Line, and Chairman of the Shaw Saville and Albion Company, will succeed him'.
A London cablegram states tliat the New Year honors include peerages for Sir G-. Sydenham Clarke and Sir George Kemp, a Baronetcy for Vice-Admiral Sir. Percv Scott, the Order of the Companion of St, Michael and St. Oeorgs to Mr. Leonard Stow, clerk of New Zealand Parliament, and a Knight Bachelorhood for Mr. W .C. Buchanan, of Xew Zealand. The Order of St. Michael and St. Oorgc has also been bestowed upon Sir J. P.'whitney (Premier of Ontario), and Sir B. P. Morris (Premier of Newfoundland). The Baronetcies include Mr. Thomas Jackson, a prominent British architect, Mr.' .T. K. C'aird; the Knighthoods. M& IA- T-- Liberty (Chairman of the Liberty Company), Mr. Francis Darwin (third son of the late -Mr. Charles Darwin), Doctor Robert, Phillip (the Edinburgh leader of the crusade against consumption); Knight of the Bath, Sir John Anderson (Permanent Under-Sec-retary to the Colonial O(l'iee).
