Stratford News
(From Our Resident Reporter). PAKAG2APHS Dr. Ilutson, an old Stratford boy, and a son of the lie v. B. Ilutson, is visiting his old home. Quite a small host of Mr. Tyrer's ''old boys" have an alphabetical index to their names now. Special train arrangements for the Stratford races are advertised. Mr. Ewen Jackson, who is now visiting the East Coast, has decided to take up his residence here again. Mr. A. Sta.ndieh, sen., of New Plymouth, was in town to-day. News is horribly scarce. It always is at this season. People don't make news because they have no time to read it. Our Christmastide travjftßMirc buzzing homeward again, fflWrißtained, tired, and tanned. Quite a number of our people have had a spell on the New Plymouth beach. Thanks to the "boost." We're thinking of "boosting" Stratford as "Sunny Stratford." Perliops the bare suggestion will bring rain!
BERNARDS PICTURES A succession of brilliant programmes has made our local picture-goers fastidious. Well, even the most fastidious of them will find it difficult to complain of the present programme. It is delightfully varied, and the pictures under each head are superb. The great feature is a wonderfully sensational animal picture entitled "Arabian Treachery." The leader of an Arabian revolt pretends friendship with the Consul, and then seizes that official's small daughter, and, aided -by his followers, carries her off to a but in the wilderness. The Consul and several others set out in pursuit of the Arabs, and the child's mother, aided by a large hound, also follows the chase. The dog leads the mother to the li»t where the child i 9 concealed, and she is' about to carry the little girl home again when she discovers that three large lions have approached the building and are prowling about near the entrance. The mother secures the door, and then prepares a trap for the beasts. She then escapes by another door, and the lions, as they enter the hut, fall into the trap. The,robbers are captured, and the party return homo safely. The Vitagraph Co. are also represented with a dramatic study, "The Old Kent Road." featuring the popular favourite, Ifaurice Costello. Other pictures include "The Stolen Ring" (Lubin), "Their Hero"'" (Edison) and a num'ier of pleasing scenic and comic pictures.
