at the distance, and won easing up by a couple of lengths. Katua and Red Lupin were a bare half-length apart at the finish. After the race an enquiry was held into the riding of Patriotic, but the explanation of Nodder was regarded as satisfactory. All the acdeptors started in the Summer Handicap, and Pliroso was sorted out as a "stone cinch." but he was the last to begin, and although he made a wood run from the foot of the straight, he could not quite catch the leaders, and Royal Dragoon, who was in front practically the whole way lasted long enough to win by a length, ridden out, from the rank outsider Gordon Bell, Avho was half a length in front of Minora. The Second Hack Hurdle Eaee was a repetition of the first day's race for Aviatrix at once took charge, and, fcnein« beautifully, showed a clean pair of heels liter-ally to her opponents, won, easing up. by night or ten lengths. Timothy looked once like making a race with her, but he hit the fence turning out of the straight hard, and fell back, and in the run homo Bereola beat him bv a length for second honors. Although only four horses were left in the New Plymouth Handicap, it provided J one of the best races of the meeting. Muleteer was a better favorite than Patriotic and Ascalon, who made all the running. The favorite, nicely handled, came with a strong run from the distance. and got up in time to beat Ascalon by a short half-length, with Patriotic a long neck away third. Crawford was pounced upon as a good thill" for the Hack Scurry, on the strength 'of his first day's running. Simple Bob delayed the start by playin" up, and ultimately the field got away in loose order, flaltee and Topic being at the head of affairs with the favourite lying handy. Once in the straight Crawford came away and won comfortably by a length and a half i from Topic, with Tree Lucerne two j lengths away third just clear of Galtee and Supply. Allure was the best backed in the Second Welter, being chosen in preference to his stable companion St. Serf, but he took little part in the race. From a splendid start Wai Haeremai and St. Ivildare were first to show out. but Opeke then took charge and led the field down the back. At the High School she was joined by Aruake, who was first into the straight, and stalling off a challenge from Master Tupuhi he scored handily bv half a length, whilst Sampan, who finished fast over the last furlong, was four lengths away, just clear of Allure and St. Serf, i The. final race of the meeting, the Electric Ilaek Handicap, saw Grattan, | Patronale and Denisc Ormc almost evenly hacked. Patronale got a good fly 1 from a straggling start, and as they I turned for home the race looked all I over, but swinging out at the turn to '! the straight lie allowed Denisc,Oi'me to squeeze through on the rails, and in a ' good finish home from the half dis--1 tance the mare bent him by a clear j length, with Oattan. who was the | absolute favourite, only half a length | awav third.
