STRATFORD NEWS.

From Our Resident Reporter. BOWLINfI Waitara defeated Stratford at Waitara on Thursday in a banner match, each rink going down by three point?, Scores (Stratford mentioned first): Edgecombe, CS. Curtis, Black, Morison (skip), 23; Hutchinson, W. Nosworthy, Calder, Wyllie (skip), 26. Sanderson, J. Masters, King, Sangster (skip), 26; Kyle, Eraser, Klenner, Ford (skip), 29. Porritt, Fookes, Mac Donald, Smart, (skip) 20; Foreman, Rattenbury, Dugdale, Andrews (skip), 23. STRAY PARAGRAPHS. Mr. A. Wolfe, brother of Mr tT. Wolfe, of Cardiff, a recent arrival, died in the Stratford Hospital on Thursday. The deceased was a prominent bandsman and conductor in Tasmania. He leaves a widow and three children.

At His Majesty's Theatre on Christmas night tne manager, Mr. Will .Diamond, referred to pulpit utterances which condemned the holding of a picture show on that night. Mr. Diamond took off the gloves, and referred to the gentleman concerned as a man who had never been inside this picture hall except oh one occasion, when he had a free pass. Another leader of a flock was present at the performance, and his opinion was that there was nothing to worry about, the programme being to his mind well chosen. Anyhow, if bad pictures do harm, why shouldn't pictures of religious subjects do good? The residence of Mr. Fincham, on the corner of the Standish Road, Toko, was burned on Thursday night. The building was insured in the Alliance Office. BERNARD S PICTURES The current programme will be presented to-night for the last time. The big drama is "Eyes that See Not." This depicts the suffering of the poor, owing to labor trouble, while employers live in luxury. A tragic incident, depicted powerfully by the cinematograph, brings about a change, and the wife of one of the magnates interests herself in the cause of the workers. The picture is striking in its child studies. "Life with a Circus" is an exceptional educational subject, depicting life behind the scenes of a mammoth circus. The elephants, horses, zebras, camels, and animal waggons present very fine scenes of animated bustle. The arrival of the circus trains and the business of unloading are graphically, shown. The remaining pictures are all good, and the theatre should be well lilled again to-night.
