ENTERTAINMENTS.

ROYAL PICTURES. There is now showing at the Theatre Royal a star film .based on incidents in the career of Rufus Dawes, the principal character in Marcus Clark's celebrated book founded on convict life in. the early days of Australia, and entitled "For the Term of His Natural Life." The scene is actually laid in Australia, and besides being intensely | thrilling and heart-gripping, gives some magnificent glimpses of the wild Australian bush. It was shown last night to a very fair audience, who were most enthusiastic in their reception of it, and it is safe to predict a large audience to-night, when it will be screened again for the second time. The supporting dramas "Jean of the Jail," "The i Bank Cashier," and "The Loneliness of the Hills," are of a high order, too, and with the accompanying industrial, scenic and humorous views, made up a selection that picture-lovers should not fail to' view. EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. It was a holiday house that greeted the. opening film at the Empire Picture Palace change of programme last evening, standing room even not being available. The pictures screened were quite in keeping with the holiday season,, being all masterpieces of the art of cinematography. Kalem's remarkable drama "A Tragedy of the Desert," had for a background the natural setting of Luxor, or the great sands of the desert, whereon tho various situations were realistically produced. "The Black Sheep," "The Passing Shadow," and "The Price of Art" make up a peerless quartet of dramas, and with thescenic, comic and industrial pictures, judiciously interspersed throughout the programme, make up a pictorial entertainment that should ecrtainly be included in the list of holiday attractions. This programme will be repeated this evening for the last time.
