DISTRICT NEWS.

TIKOEAXGI. (From Our Own Correspondent). The supply of milk to the local deiry factory for tlic month of Noven-ncr shows mi increase of 37,0001bs over that of the same month in 1911. This is highly satisfactory, as owing to the defection of three suppliers, who are now taking their milk to a neighboring factory, and two others who have retired from dairying, one would not have been surprised had the returns shown a decrease. Cultivation and manuring arc the (factors \v]|ich account for the increase. After some delay, ov,-ing to the difficulty in obtaining sample bottles, the Tikqrangi cow-testing association has '■■_ commenced operations. I understood that the arbitrators have agreed on the rents to be paid by tenants under the West Coast Reserves Act for the ensuing 21 years. It is generi ally held that the rents have been increased rather more than was antieipat--1 ed. As a memento of the festive season, I have, to acknowledge with thanks a pretty card received from the Daily News, and I heartily reciprocate the Christmas and Xew Year greetings contained therein.

The annual entertainment given by the children attending tlw State school was to have been held on Tuesday last. whilst a social evening with a Christmas tree was to be hold on Friday in connection with St. Luke's Sunday School. The 'sad and lcnentable occurrence, particulars of which haVc alreadj'; appeared, in the News, rendered a postponement of the former fixture imperative, and it was with some difficulty! that another suitable date could be fojund. . However, the promoters of. the Sunday School social very . kindly, consented to hold their function "on'trie Wednesday and generously gave up Friday for the concert. Notwithstanding the very short notice of the alteration of dates,' man V.' children, AVitlf parents and friends, put in an appearance oh' Wednesday evening. The proceedings were opened by a short introductory speech ! by Mi|. J. W.
