AUSTRALIAN BUTTER.
THE LONDON MARKET. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, December 23. -Sir George Reid's report on the Australian butter trade in England was laid on the table of the House. It showsv that the conditions are very unsatisfac-{ tory, and unless the unscrupulous prac-l-tices which ave being universally foli lowed are checked the result will be ( permanent injury to the butter tradfe] A large quantity of Australian butte is used to rescue, at a big profit, ysk ferior stuff manufactured in Britain. Fifty per cent, or more is used for blending purposes, and the balance disposed of under names approved by salesmen. It urges the necessity of a sound system of grading and marking, similar to that of New Zealand and other countries. While other butters were well known, Sir George does not believe that 20 per cent, of the people in Britain are aware that they can purchase Australian.
