PERSONAL.

Mr. W. J. Gardner, Town Clerk at Petouo, is sparging a fortnight's vacation at New Plymouth. Mr. W. H. Skinner, Commissioner for Lands, Marlborough, is on a visit to New Plymouth, his former home. The death occurred last week qf Mr. H. C. Wright, a well-known resident of Opunake. Deceased was formerly in the British navy. , M!r. Russell, who has been temporarily in charge of the Opunake Presbyterian Church, is about to take up similar work at Eltham. Before his departure ne was presented with a gold albert. The Kev. Mr. Welch takes charge of the Opunake church. The following are gazetted members °1 the Surveyors' Board under the Surveyors' Institute and Board of Examiners' Act:—Messrs. Thomas Humphreys E. 11. Wilmot, Hubert Sladden and J- W. Harrison. The first two were nominated by the Minister for Lands, and the other two by the council of tht ftew Zealand Institute of Surveyors. At Saturday's meeting of the Moa Road Board, Mr. S. Orbell tendered his resignation as consulting engineer on aeeount of his leaving the district. Commenting on Mr. Orbell's services, tho chairman (Mr. H. Trimble) said that on the whole his work had been carried out in a very satisfactory manner. The board had every reason to be satisfied witli him. Other members acquiesced, and Mr. Orbell briefly returned thanks.
