Mr. J. H. Howitt, C.E., of die Engineers' Staff, Wellington, was last nii'lit appointed as engineer to the Timaru Borough Council from 22 applicants, at £4OO a year. In the Baptist Cliureli, on Thursday afternoon, Mr. H. W. Lightband was married to Miss Elsia Carthew. Mr. Douglas Little, of Wellington, was best man, and Mr. €. V. Carthew groomsman. The bridesmaids were Miss Mabel Carthew. of Feilding, and Miss Rubv Tlurle, of New Plymouth.
