THE SWEET PEA SOCIETY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North. December 20. The annual meeting of the National Sweet Pea Society of New Zealand, held to-night, was attended by representatives from Hawcra, Poriru'a, Masterton, Mutt and Wellington. The meeting carried unanimously the following resolution:—That the animal show be. held in a different centre each year. During the. discussion, Auckland and Wellington were chiefly mentioned, with a strong leaning toward Wellington for next year, for the special convenience of Nelson and Blenheim. The executive committee will decide the point. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron Lord Liverpool; president, Mr. J. B. Hareourt (Wellington); vice-presidents, Messrs. 11. Brett (Auckland), Trevethick (Wellington); council, Mrs. E. C. Brown (Epsom) and Messrs. Plummer and Clayton (Auckland), J. J. Kerskkc and Fox (Wellington), Chas. Goodson (Hiiwera), C. Reader (Stratford), P. J. Nathan, and Mrs. Lionel Abraham (Palmerston). Sellars and Mrs. Wood (Wairarapa), J. H. Murdock (Napier), P. Penn (Otaki), Holder (Porirua), P. W. Hamilton and B. Pascal (Nelson); secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. C. Lane (Palmerston North).

DOCTORS AND FRIENDLY SOCIETIES. Invercargill, December 20. The secretary of the local branch of the British Medical Association lias received an official communication from the Lodge Committee to-day inviting medical men to reconsider their decision as lodge officials. He believes that the present situation lias arisen through a misunderstanding. As a reply to this communication is desired late'in January, it is anticipated that a settlement just and fair to both parties will be arrived at soon after that date.

AN ESCAPED PRISONER. Wellington, December 20. ( Peter Young, a recent arrival from Scotland, serving a sentence of six months' imprisonment for breaking, entering and theft at Hastings, is at large. He had t)ecn removed from the Terrace Gaol to the hospital for .treatment this afternoon, and about five o'clock had disappeared.
