..LONDON. MARKETS. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright, London, December 17. Silver, 29 5-16(1 per oz. Butter.—There is a steady demand. Importers are accepting Is to 2s reduction in order to clear before the holidays. L'j '. L 3 " - DAIRY PRODUCE REPORT. Messrs E. Griffiths and Co,, are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated London, November S, 1!)12: Tlic weather continues to be very mild, and is more like spring than wfiiter, so that on the whole supplies are fairly large, and trade under tnese conditions shows no improvement. Danish: Quotations have been reduced 2 kroner. Tne general feeling is that tms is not sufficient, and that it would have been wiser to make the reduction to 4 kroner. As it is now, the trade is dragging, and buyers expect a further reduction. Siberian: Arrivals this week are small, being only about 4000 casks, but even those are not wanted, and there \vill be great difficulty in clearing. French: The conditions are unchanged, supplies being plentiful, and prices fairly reasonable, this being an entirely different state of things to that which existed at the same time last vear.
Irish: There is plenty of butter on offer, and prices continue to decline, with a pressure to sell.
Australian: The s.s. Mooltan is to hand this week, with 12,000 boxes, most of which are new season's make. The quality is not altogether as good as wc have seen it at the opening of the season, some of the butters having a wintry flavor. 4 s regards demand, we regret to have to report that this has been very poCf.""'BUyers seem to only want best quality,, and oi\ly a small quantity of this. Seconds are entirely neglected, and although agents are offering these at lower prices, it is almost impossible to clear. The position is a'very disappointing one, and it puzzles one to know the cause. Certainly the mild open weather which has prevailed for some time has -given us a good supply of Trisli and Continental butter, to say nothing of the Home make, which is a diflicnlt thing to estimate, but the absence of demantl of late is surprising, and it would seem that this state of things cannot last much longer.
Now Zealand: The s.s. Turakina, ■winch was duo yesterday, has been delayed. and is hot expected to arrive until the beginning of next week. ( So far there is little enquiry for the butter. Argentine: Trade for this kind of butter lias also been very slow. The arrivals this week have met with only a dragging sale. Cheese.—We regret there is no improvement to report. Buyers seem to have sufficient stock for the moment, and there being a good supply of New Zealand cheese to go forward, tlicy prefer to wait until these come along rather than to stock up with Canadian, although the latter is being pressed for sale, at lower prices.
