OPERATIC SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. Mr. E. S. Bayly presided over the annual meeting of the New Plymouth Operatic Society, which was held last evening. About 40 members, including a big percentage of.ladies, were present, ami the proceedings were very protracted and at times rather lively, the rules of debate being often totallj; ignored. The balance-sheet, showing a very satisfactory credit balance, was adopted, and twelve -lew members elected. The alloc.M ion of honariuins gave rise to a long and discursive discussion. The committee tabled certain recommendations in regard to payment of these, which led Mr. Broome to contend that it had gone bey and its province. Mr. llaslam supported Mr. Broome, and the upshot of the discussion was that several of the honorariums were increased. Mivsrs. Collier and B. MeEwen returned their honorariums as a donation to the Society. Officers were "leeted as follow:—Patron, the Mayor (Mr. G. W .Browne); vice-president-;. Messrs. IT. Weston, Ohaney. ,1. Howe. W. Weston. (}. Tabor and Dr. Walker: secretary, pro tem, Mr. B. MeEwen: treasurer, Mr. E. S. Bayley; conductor, Mr. R. N. Remind (re-elect-ed): stage manager. Mr. R. IT. Johnson (re-elected); assistant-stage manager, Mr. Harrop: pianiste, Miss A. Warren (re-elected): committee, Mrs. Dell, Mrs. Collier, Messrs. Collier. llaslam, Bayly, B. MeEwen, Renaud. Johnson, Harrop; trustees, .Messrs. W. H. Broome and C. C. Ward; lion, auditor, Mr. H. Stocker.
