A Sydney cablegram says that another attempt is to be made to train Ladr • Medallist. Shuja has been scratched for the Port - Adelaide Cup. A cable from Fremantle says that R. Wootton, the well-known horse trainer, has arrived 011 a flyimj visit; Ho strenuously denies the report that 1 ' "he intends returning to Australia permanently as a result of the treatment of his son in England. "There is too much money there for me to do that," ■ he said. The reason for the general success of Australian jockeys in England * was because they had more devil than the others. He considers that Australian stayers may be superior to English because of the hard way they are trained and their better lung power, but the Australian sprinters are not in it with the English ones.
METROPOLITAN COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Taranaki Metropolitan Committee was held last night, lhose present were; Messrs. Lepper, (in the chair), Orbell. Webster, Weston, Clmney, Blundell, Ellis. The Opunnkt! Racing Club's programme was returned for revision. Licenses were granted as follow: Trainers: C. 11. Moss, 0. R. Cockrane; jockeys: Charles Pearce, C. W. Thetford; apprentice jockeys: A. N. Goddard; gentlemen riders': H. 1). Matthews, A. Mitchell, F. C. Higginson, S. C. Mcßae, T. A. Wright.
T.J.C. COMMITTEE. The Taranaki Jockey Club Committee met subsequently. Several new members were elected, and one resignation accepted. It was decided to engage the Taranaki Garrison Band to supply music at the forthcoming meeting. Alterations are being effected in the luncheon room in the grandstand in or--» der to give the caterer more facilities. The catering at the Christmas meeting will be done by Mr. Wooler. It was decided to erect discs at the different distances on the several tracki to enable visiting trainers to pick up the distances quickly. A new survey is to be made of the tracks, and the meeting, arranged several ot'her matters in connection with the forthcoming meeting.
