MASSACRE OF NATIVES. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Sydney, December 1/. The mission steamer brings news of a native massacre at Abau, Papua. A gang, headed by a notorious chief, raided several villages and murdered the natives wholesale. The band then attacked the camp of a prospector named Arnold, who, after a desperate fight, drove off the attackers, killing one. and wounding three. Parties of native police attempted to surround the raiders, and killed and wounded two. The police escaped. A punitive party has been despatched.
