Harvey and P. Willcox. HOLIDAYS. The question of Christmas holidays was discussed, and it was resolved that v/ork be ceased from December 25 to January 1 (inclusive), and to pay the men for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's [jay. The office will also be closed during the same period. FOREMAN'S REPORT.

J. P. Kennedy (foreman) reported that {rood progress was being made with the Turn road loan contract, which, given fine weather, should be completed in ten or twelve days. He recommended a progress payment of £l5O on this contract, and also a final payment on the Hum road contract, Public Trust grant. He also asked permission to proceed after the holidays with the formation and metalling of ten chains of the ■ Bayly road (bottom end), which was authorised some time back. A large culvert on the Upper Kimi road by the creamery was giving way and would require to be replaced by pipes. Three hundred yards of gravel were granted 'this road last year, but was held over on account of insufficient time to carry out the work, and he now asked for an additional 30Pyds, to repair the road from top to bottom. On the Warca road ail 1 Sin pipe culvert had been put in by Mr. Putt. About .£!) had been expended in repairing the Pungarehu road from the main road to the factory with broken metal. About £5 was required to complete this, and he asked for authority to expend this. The main drain on the Opua road from the Main road to Mr. Cross' badly needed cleaning. not having been cleaned out for years. The whole road was dependent on the drain, and he recommended that the offer of .Mr. Cross to clean it out for, 4s per chain, he paying half cost, be accepted. Repairs to the Upper Arawhtita road were still being proceeded with. He reported the burying of a cow on the Jhaia road, and all brands, etcJ, had been taken, but the owner could not be found. The following pipes had been sold:—Six ISin, five 3(iin and five 12ii. The report was adopted, and the vai'ious'recommendatioiis will be carried out.' \ CARRTXGTON ROAD.

The Public Works Department, in reply; to tlie Board's communication in regard to that portion of the Carrington roafl between Warea and Puniho roads,, stated that'a vote had been provided on' the-current year's appropriations for. the Carrington road, but the purpose W wliiph the money was voted did not include the work referred to. As thep were no funds 'available.'the Minister \vgroited'that he was unable to favorably entertain the request. Mr. Willcox also pointed out that about two miles of the road between .lvahui anil Xgariki was useless for the want of about £l'2 expended on it. GREGORY 1 ROAD. ' ' The foreman, in his report, stated that fences had been removed off the Gregory road, which was now opened. Since then, however, some person had erected a temporary fence across the road. Members were unanimously of ion that 110 person should lie allowed to erect a fence across a road which the public desired open, and it was resolved that the foreman be instructed to remove the fence, ascertain the name of the person 'who erected it, and charge him with the cost. THE COUNTY METAL TRAFFIC. ' ' The question of expending the money granted by the Egmont County Council, viz., £3 10s, for repairing damage .done to Cape road by the County Council 'in getting metal supplies, was discussed, and the foreman was authorised. to attend to the matter. Mr. Willcox moved, in order to prcve nt any further misunderstanding with the Council,, (hat it lie an instruction to the Board's foreman to inspect'with the County Council's foreman all roads in the Parihaka road district over which the Council may be taking metal, both before and after, and come to an arrangement re the damage done.—Seconded by Mr. llarvey and carried. FEXCIXK METAL PITS.

C'lirisp. who had disposed of his property on the I'ungarehu road to Otmpiiell, of Auckland, asked (he Hoard to carry out the arrangement made in connection with the road, whereby the Hoard agreed to pay £23 per acre for land taken and also to put back the fence. The clerk reported that the Board were keeping to the agreement and •would push on with the matter as soon as possible. WAXDERIXC CATTLE. Mr. Willcox referred to the manner in which the ranger (norllieni end) was doing his work. They were paying rent for a pound out of which they were' getting no benefit, while, cattle were grazing on the road. Mr. Ilarvey also referred lo the frequency with which cattle and horses were trespassing on the road, and moved I hilt the present ranger be given notice terminating his engagement and t hat the foreman arrange for the appointment of a new ranger. CENTRAL. The Reserves Agcn !. Ilawcra. notified payment of filial amount of .Cl.'s-t on account of the lhaia road grant. The quest inn of replacing surfacemen who had resigned was discussed, anil it was decided that the foreman appoint a temporary man. and, if satisfactory, the appointment will lie made permanent. The lioard will meet again ou December 17, and wages, accounts, etc., will be passed for payment up till Christmas Eve.
