CRICKET.

WELLINGTON COLLEGE v. WANGANUI COLLEGE. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wanganui, Last Night. The animal inter-college match between Wellington and Wanganui was concluded to-day, and resulted in an easy win for the local boys. in their second innings, only succeeded in knocking up 44 of the 242 required to win, Wanganui having compiled 21!) in their second innings. For Wanganui Bernau 02, Humphries 40, Salmon 50; and Bennett 18, were the chief scorers. For Wellington, Stanton 22 (not out) was the only double-figure scorer.

"Cricket in particular I should like to see improved," remarked the principal (Mr. Moyes) at the breaking-up ceremony of the High School yesterday. ''Very few boys possess even a rudimentary knowledge of this fine game, and some years must necessarily elapse uefcre the standard of other schools is reached. It is gratifying, however, to note that the younger boys in the school are showing a "marked improvement at this game, and the one thing needed to make cricketers of them is expert coaching; and I may say here that it is my ambition to have a professional cricket coach and groundsman at the school before many months have passed. Practically all the leading schools of New Zealand have special men imported to look after the cricket, and I see no reason why New Plymouth should not follow suit. According to those who are in a position to judge, the work, in the gymnasium is better than it has ever been. I can only say that it has more than come up to my expectations, and that it reflects great credit on Mr. W. Lints, who has control of this section of the •chool work."
