, ACCIDENT OX A STEAMER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. A seaman on the Niwaru, named Graves, fell down the ship's hold last night and suffered concussion of the brain. He was taken to the hospital in an unconscious condition. TWO INQUESTS. Gisborne, Friday. At the inquest on Frank Warbrick, who was killed at Port Awanui, the verdict was that death was caused through Warbrick accidentally falling backwards from the. wharf into a boat, and that no blame was attachable to anyone. At the inquest at Tokomaru Bay, regarding the death of George Hahvorth, the verdict was that deceased strangled himself while in a state of depression. M EXTRAORDINARY CASE. Wellington, Friday. An inquest was held to-day on the body of the telegraph messenger Jounax, who was drowned in the Te Aro swimming balhs. It was stated in evidence that during the afternoon about 1000 people were in the baths, but the accident to deceased was unnoticed. A verdict was returned that death was due to accidental drowning, and that no blame was attachable to the caretaker of the baths. -
PTOMAINE POISONING. Dunedin, Last Night. Ivy Beatrice P.earce, the ten-year-old daughter of John F. Pearce, a railway guard at Caversham, died at her parents' residence last night under circumstances pointing to ptomaine poisoning. The father and four children were taken ill simultaneously. The youngest child was very low for a long time, but is now improving. An inquest will be held.
Later. At the inquest on the body of Ivy Pearce, who died last night, a verdict was returned that death was due to ptomaine poisoning as a result of eating decomposed rabbit.' . ' FOUND DEAB. Invercargill, Last Night. The police have received advice that an old man named Sutherland, residing at Calcium, near Fairfax, was found dead. Tt appears that on Monday last a baker called on him to ascertain whether he wanted bread. Sutherland then complained of feeling unwell, but apparently he did not convey the impression that lie was seriously ill. To-day the baker made another call and discovered Sutherland in a kneeling posture dead. An inquest will be held.
