A villa collapsed at Arcachon, burying ten workmen, of whom live hava died. THE CROWN JEWELS. , London. December 11. Despite the official denial, the Daily News asserts that the Dublin crown jewels have been returned, and that the authorities knew where they were within six weeks of the theft. Mr. Ginnell, M.P., asserted that the St. Patrick jewels had been within reach of the authorities ever since they disappeared. SENTENCE OF DEATH. London, December 11. Hop wood, charged with the murder of Flo Dudley, a pantomime "boy," in a taxicab, has been sentenced to death. There was a dramatic scene, prisoner weeping in the dock and declaring that the shooting was entirely accidental. THE SUNKEN STEAMER. London, December 11. It is believed the Centurion collided with the small salvage steamer Osprey, carrying seven hands. 'HIE RUBBER OUTRAGES. London, December 11. At the Putumayo inquiry, Sir Roger Casement, recalled, said that the statement of the Indians was that an agent of the company surprised an Indian settlement in the forest. MUTINOUS PRISONERS. London, December 11. The Isle of Wight prisoners who mutinied recently are closely confined, and their diet rigidly curtailed. The ringleaders were lashed to the triangle and then birched, , WEST INDIES PREFERENCE BILL, j Ottawa, December 11. In introducing the West Indies Preference Bill, Mr. Foster, Minister of Customs, said preference would last till 11922, and the duty would never be less than four-fifths of that paid by foreign exporters. Government aid in steamship communication would be forthcoming. He hoped that the grant of preference to the West Indies would be extended shortly to other colonies and Domin- . ions.
