The strikers are conferring with the North-Eastern Railway Company to-day. MORE HOPEFUL POSITION. London, December 11. The strike has rendered 20,000 miners idle. The situation is easier. The Mayor of Newcastle is acting as mediator. Both sides are represented. THE SUSPENDED ENGINE-DRIVER. London, December 11. The Home Office has appointed a commission to enquire into Knox's case.
