HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SPRING SHOW. Entries closed last night for the New Plymouth Horticultural Society's Spring Show, which is. to be held in the Coronation Hall to-morrow from 2 to 9 p.m., and, considering the recent storms, the committee have every reason to be gratified at the generous response of exhibitors. In addition to the aesthetic side, there promises to be a good display of vegetables, especially potatoes, while ferns will be well represented. This year's show will be better from a spectacular standpoint than its predecessors, as there will be more professional .growers- represented than usual, and 1 the huge hall will be well filled with, choice blooms. The Home Industries classes have brought forward quite a number of new exhibitors. In faictout of 47 classes in cookery, preserves, and the like, 46 will be contested. Added interest will be lent to the show by the demonstration of the proper hiving of bees, which will be given by Mr. F. W. Sandford at 3 p.m. and at*B p.m. The children's classes have attracted a very large number of entrants, the number in cooking alone havirjg jumped in one year from three to rio fewer than 62. Afternoon tea will be provided by Mrs. ICirkby, and there should be much to interest visitors.
