MR. McNAB.

! To the Editor. | w °t' ce that a lot of comment has been going on in the papers lately as t« whether Mr. McNafc was paid for his his oneal writing. If what I surmise took place, I contend, and, I think, with logic on my side, that if a Minister of the Crown who is a paid public, servant, just as much as a letter-carrier is is supposed to give (his whole time to'his °wi Ce nr 0r ™ir , ho clraws a fat salary, and Mr. MeNab did his research and writing whilst a Minister, by all sound reasoning he was paid, and by the Government, too. How often has Mr. JVlassey exp9sed the actions of Ministers attending race mecings, leaving their Under-Secretaries to run the show whilst tfiey were away opening two-penny-lia'-penny post offices and vote-gettin" and drawing their salary and travelling expenses as well?—I am, etc., REFORM. LOur correspondent is all at sea. The writings that have formed the subject of criticism have been done since Mr MeNab was out of politics. Dr. Newman's charge was that Mr. McNab had received money from the Sta, J .e for the work. .Both the Premier and the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher repudiated the statement inside and outside Parliament. Mr. McNab is doing a valuable work on behalf "of the State and giving fully of liis time and or jus money, yet there are people in the country wl lo do not scruple to attribute base motives to him and question his bona fides. Mr. MeNab is giving years of his life and thousands of pounds of his estate and has had, and looks to, nothing in return, but regards it as a duty and a privilege to be of service to his country. It is a pity there are not more in the country animated by the same spirit of unselfishness and patriotism.—Ed.]
