WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. At tlio monthly meeting of (lie above Board there were present: Mr. J. Connetfc (chairman). Messrs ' Hall, Lepper, Surrey and Turiibull. Correspondence was read from Mr. J. Win, enclosing resolution protesting against the abolition of road boards without the consent of ratepayers; from Messrs Roy and Nicholson, forwarding papers for signature in connection with Kelly road deviation; from Treasury, notifying that the resolution striking a special rate for Eltham road loan had been gazetted; from Mr. T. Potroz, requesting that Everett road bo repaired; and from Mr. E. B. Wilson, stating that Ihe would charge 6d per yard royalty on all metal taken from his pit in future. Surfaceman Palmer reported that Haskell and Co. had delivered 102 yards of metal on the Kelly road, and also 4 yards on the Waitara road; Messrs Tate and Paul hid, put on about 14 yards on the Karaka road, and R. Tate had commenced to grade same with road-grader. Surfaceman Giddy reported that the 1 Te Arei road had been repaired with metal supplied by Montefiore, the hill on Richmond road formed ready for metalling, and the cutting on Ackworth read widened. Messrs Tate and Samp-' son had been engaged to cart timber for tire Mangawhero bridge, and Mr. George had finished erecting same, and the approaches had been filled in. The chairman reported that he had been unable to procure the county grader for repairing i the Waitara road. Mr. R Hoskin had agreed to accept 3d per yard royalty on metal for this year, but would expect 6d per yard in future. Mr. Hall reported that he had inspected the culvert on York road, and that a filling would be required, but that he considered it would he advisable to expend the money available this year in formation and eutting down hills by Mr. Hoby's gate. He also reported that £l4 had been promised towards metalling the hill on Richmond road. Mr. Turnbull reported that Mr. Sarten had informed him that the donations promised to metal the Bertrand road, would be paid at any time. The surfacemen were instructed to make the junction of Cross and Richmond roads safe for traffic, to expend, up to £7 in formation on the Everett road, to fill in the Karaka road where required, and to repair the metal on the Matarikoriko road.

The clerk reported that the Mangawero bridge had cost £lB6, and that there were a few more accounts to come in. Mr. Wilson is to be informed that the Board are unable to agree to pay (3d per yard royalty on metal from his pit. Mr. S. TurnbulFs offer, to disc a portion of the Cross road was accepted with thanks. Accounts amounting to £l6O were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
