THE NEW SOUTH WALES MATCHES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright? Received 8, 8.5 p.m. . Sydney, December 8. Tennis was continued in bright and moderately warm weather. The courts were considerably faster, and play all round showed a great improvement on Friday's exhibition, some of it bejng really first class and arousing enthusiasm. Beamish and Wright showed interesting play, with remarkably forceful and accurate service, which was effective occasionally, but was marred by numerous double faults. Parke opened badly against A. B. Jones, the latter taking the first three games. Parke showed plenty. of pace, but his length was had. lie then recovered and took the next five games and the tenth game. 'lne second set was splendid. Jones Was noticeable for accurate and fast shots and his net play. Tlie eighth game produced several lengthy brilliant rallies. The doubles between Dixon and Be»* mish, and Wright and A. B. Jones, were the feature of the day's play. The Englishmen played well, hut New Soujth Wales were brilliant, surpassing themselves, especially Jones, who made few, mistakes. His net play and placing were again admirable. Wright ably seconded him. and was especially good in 6verliead work 1 . Dixon's volleying was very, powvrful, and proved a splendid scoring, , stroke. Wright and Jones' won the first set, and in the second were practically unable to go wrong. Beamish beat Wright, 4—6, B—6, ft—3. Parke beat A. B. Jones, fc-5, 6—4. Wright and A. B. Jones beat Dixon and Beamish, 7—5, ft—l. In Parke and Low versus E. L. Jones and Rice, each pair won a set o—4, and bad.light stopped play, which will be continued on Monday, the score not counting in the un- 1 finished match. Britain won five rubbers, ten eels, and 03 games, and New South Wales one rubber, six sets, and 83 games.
