THEATRE ROYAL PICTURES. A MA'JXUTUiO.VL' SPECIAL PICTURE.. The picture programmes now showing nightly in the Theatre Royal 'are brilliant in every respect, and the management claim equ il to any programmes shown throughout the Dominion. There certainly seems just grounds for this claim, as the pictures .screened are the star productions of, the world's very foremost film producer*. To-night the new programme includes a magnificent Eclair Special, "The Sphinx," a" fine story of the French Revolution period, with strong dramatic situations, brilliant staging, vigorous episodes, and fine acting. The story shows how a noblewoman, romantically (rescued, follows her rescuer to the wars, and'disguised as a soldier encounters strange adventures. The Eclair Company are noted for the bril'iancy and splendour of thenproductions, a notable subject being Zigomar, and in the present instance have fully upheld their great name.

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. Patrons at the Empire Theatre on Saturday evening were treated liberally as regards the new series of picture?. There were four strong dramatic films, of equal calibre, but distinct plote. Tn "The Detective's Conscience," the romance was heightened by the orchestra's excellent rendering of Wagner's "Star of Eve." Child, acting was a strong point in "With the Enemy's Help." The "Bank President's Ron" showed an insight into bunking methods with a nice love story entwined, and the alleged corruption of the American Senate was strongly depicted in the political film,

"The Insurgent Sena Lor." Education and Art were represented in the Caumont Graphic. "A Trip to Bermuda," "The Palace of Versailles." and "Constantinople." As a, variation "Zigoto's New Motor Car," drew smiles from a willing audience, and there were other excellent educational and comic subjects. Pah'jns would do well to remember the very first short film is not put on for amusement. These nictures will again be shown this evening and tomorrow evening, and lovers of pictures will do well not to miss them.
