THE SYDNEY FIRE,

Sydney, December 8. The damage, at Harrington's amounts to £25,000. The firm was largely insured. The brigade did splendid work, and managed to save the adjoining premises with only slight damage.

AMERICAN STEAMER WRECKED. New York-, December 7.

Advices from Duluth, Minnesota, state that the Booth Line steamer Easton went ou the rocks during a snowstorm. Fifty passengers were aboard. A dozen tugs were despatched to her help. All the passengers were saved in the teeth of a fierce blizzard.

A PRISON MUTINY. London, December 8. Fifty criminals in the new preventive detention prison on the Isle of Wight mutinied because one was sent to the punishment cells. The warders, aided by staves, quelled the mutiny.
