BOWLING.
Two. rinks 'from th?, Fljzroy Club will take part in the tournament'at Wanganui. They will comprisc : : Oxenham. Dingle, Rennell, Abbott;/,' and Allen, Biggs, Chivers, Jackson, Tlie New Plymouth Club'will send two, and "possibly three,; j-jrlks to Wanganui. The Banner matches set down for deeis.ion, next Thursday are:—New Plymouth v. Waitarn., .at'Waltara; Stratford v. Fitzroy, at .and wood y. West End, at JngTewood. The Banner match,' New Plymouth v. Fitzroy, resulted in a fairly easy win for the senior club. Fitzroy had'the misfortune'to be without)the services of several good men. sp they were not surprised, at the result. • However, a very enjoyable game eventuated ,an<l about half-way through was close enough to become exciting. Rennell's was the only Fitzroy rink on ton at the finish. The first rounds are now almost completed in the New Plymouth Club's championship cup, handicap singles and handicap pairs competitions. Local bowlers will h e pleaded to hear that it is.on the tapis that a Visit may be paid New Plymouth during the holidays by eight, rinks of South Canterbury and North Ota go.'bowlers. If the visit comes off they will stay at New Plymouth, .en route from.Wangamii' to Auckland. Something definite about the projected visit, will be available shortly. A/correspondent'writes to a contem-porary:—Two'Britishers-will travel two hundred miles in .".box eight feet by five, and beyond a gln're'nnrf a possible "Excuse me." no oth"r exchange of thought takes place. Something like that is creeping into our bowling' matches. With the exception of the pawky, Scotchman, here and there, who' is original in his remarks on the jrame; Very 1 little which makes for helping either the individual or humanity is in evidence at our matches. Certainly compliments are exchanged at the end of the game, but unfortunately it is the president of the club for the time being who offers these. They become cast iron in form, and in nine cases out of ten, they are the tawdiest of platitudes. Now would it not bo better that all, winners and losers, as good snorts, should sing some closing ditty embodying sentiments suitable t<? tl(p occasion? Or ii Someone must orate, why not get a paid orator? llowlers on tour are less restrained, according to a writer in the New Zealand Herald. Tt seems to be quite out of order, he says, for touring teams of bowlers to be well provided with hakas. choruses, etc. The Auckhnnlers' chant of "We want evervbody happy," will not have been forgotten. The southern team's anthem appears to be: "We're a band of jolly bowlers, and we's come across the Straight To meet our northern brethren—we trust we're not too late; We will do our best to beat you. the result we leave to Fate, As we go bowling on!"
