Axemen and sawyers -are reminded that entries for the Rahotu West Coast Axemen's, Carnival close on Monday , next. ,Tt is. perhaps hardly necessary to do 150 for following so close after the big-car-: .nival at Eltham, and offering such liberal prize money, the Coastal Club usually attracts many of the champions as well .of course as the best of the local men many of whose powers and skill are wellknown. This year the club has issued-a programme well up to the usual standard, and the chops and sawing events are certain to fill well. Mr. A. Hansen is. the handicapper, so that competitors can rely on their merits-being judged as accurately as-it is possible for them to be before the events. The cycling events, too, are very attractive, 'and nominations for them close next Friday.
The No. 2 D Squadron, Wellington. West Coast Mounted Rides (Waitara) intend to compete in the Naval and Military Tournament to be held at Christchurch Christmas time, and with this end in view are steadfastly practising. The Waitara men competed at Palmerston North last year, and were very successful, and can be relied upon to give .1 gfied account of themselves. In "the events open to officers, Lienls. James and -Toll will compote in the tent needing, and the latter also in the officers' jumpmg coinpetition. Tn the. jumping competition open to non-commissioned officers and men. Quarter-Sergt. Hawkins and Scrgt. Hine will compete for the rescue nice. Troopers Whitehead and Hook will be. the entrants from Waitara. The Lloyd Lindsay team will consist of Quar-ter-Sergeant Hawkins, Sergeant ITine, Corps. Kennedy and Hansen. The same will also compete in lilting at the ring ( and lemon cutting, whilst Cor]). Hansen will compete in leading horses over I hurdles. The team will leave for Christj church on the 17th inst. and will have a I few days there prior to the events. Several extra horses will he taken.
