At Toronto, ilr. Bourrassa said that it was only the French-Canadians that prevented the Americanisation of Canada. The prevalence of the French language formed the chief barrier against the absorption of American ideas and methods. If English were forced upon the French-Canadians, the result would not be to Anglicise them, but to Americanise them.
