THE WAIHI STRIKE.
SUPPORT FROM BROKEN HILL. By Telegraph-*-Press Association. Sydney, December 2. The Labor Federation at Broken Hill passed a resolution deprecating the action of the New Zealand Government in supporting armed thuggery, also the action of the mine-owners in their American methods of trying to break the strike at Waihi. The miners reaffirmed the resolution ill support of the strikers. MR. SEMPLE'S LATEST FICTION. Auckland. Monday. Messrs. Remple, Webb and Parry attended a large nice ting in the Opera House on Sunday night, when reference was made to the ending of the Waihi strike. Mr. Semple said that hundreds of men were prepared to march on Waihi, but 'Would have been met by ball cartridge and the end of bayonets. They knew that the military was in constant readiness to proceed there, and that the Territorials would be called out if necessity had arisen. In the face of such drastic measures, the Federation deemed it inadvisable to send the men hack. He and other speakers expressed the hope that good results would come from the Labor Conference at Wellington in January.
